ADI PHILOSOPHY
AIMS, GOALS & OBJECTIVES
- To advocate for full participation of the deaf to exercise their human rights in all endeavors of life in Africa.
- To strengthen the capacity of member Deaf ADIs and Organizations in Africa for the improvement of educational programs/services for the Deaf.
- To collaborate with African Union, W.H.O, UN, regional organizations, agencies, Philanthropies and other relevant stakeholders in African and globally, advocating to promote Deaf issues and for the signing, ratification and implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities(UNCRPD) by all AU member States..
- To survey, analyze and undergo a documentary research with comprehensive data on general needs of Deaf Africans in areas such as education, employment, sports, health, economic, arts and culture, as well as civil and political rights including issues of human rights abuses, and develop a joint proposal to African political leaders and pursue same for implementation and equalization of opportunities.
- To encourage and sensitize ADI regional branches and Deaf communities in Africa to mobilize and encourage participation in the activities of ADI.
- To establish a strong and unified voice in global affairs for the protection and promotion of Deaf Africans rights, inclusion, participation and dignity.
- To promote and strengthen the capacity of Sign Language AND Sign Language Interpreters in Africa; and advocate for the setting up of Interpreters Institutes across Africa in order to make Interpretation a certification and a paid activity.
